History of the Institute

Our Institute is the same age as the industry!

Active and direct participation of VNIINM, JSC named after A. A. Bochvar contributed to the development of the country's nuclear shield, its nuclear fleet, modern nuclear power plants and spacecraft. Twenty seven employees of our Institute were awarded the title of Lenin Prize Laureates, 126 were awarded the National Award, 28 were awarded the Council of Ministers Award, and 6 were awarded the Academy of Sciences named after V. Khlopin. A. V. Nikulina and V. Shishov are the recipients of the International Kroll Medal for their work with zirconium. More than 430 employees were awarded orders and medals. A. A. Bochvar and A. S. Nikiforov were given a title of the Hero of Socialist Labor  (A. Bochvar was honoured twice). In 1962, the Institute was awarded the Order of Lenin by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

To recognize the great achievements and prominent role in the development of nuclear science and technology, the Institute was awarded the status of the State Scientific Center of the Russian Federation.
